I have lived in Northeast Louisiana my whole life. In fact, I didn't leave my first zipcode until I got married. My husband Justin and I will celebrate our 10 year anniversary on June 6th, 2008. We have two children; Kacey is nine and loves dancing, singing, Hannah Montana, and going hunting with her dad. Ryan is four and is destined to be the class clown. He is sweet, funny, and can climb a tree is ten seconds flat.
I have two older sisters, Denna and Karen. We each have a boy and girl, so that worked out well. I am sure that after having three daughters, my dad is glad to have three grandsons now, as well as three more girls.
My Dad is a wonderful father and grandfather. He has lived and worked in Texas Hill Country for 8-9 years now. We have all fallen in love with the area and try to visit often. It is quite a place for a food obsessed person such as myself.
I have had an unusual fascination with food for as long as I can remember. I was an extremely skinny child. I was always quite tall for my age, (I am 5' 11" now.) People could never believe how much I could eat considering my size. My great grandfather jokingly referred to me as the trash compacter because I would eat anything (and everything).
Most of my childhood memories are wrapped around food. I remember going to a pick-your-own corn farm and eating the freshly husked corn. I still cannot taste a bell pepper without being whisked back to a summer 20 years or so ago. My sisters and I had a small plastic swimming pool. We filled it up with water, cut up various vegetables, and made soup. The taste of those sun warmed vegetables is still stuck in my mind. As a teenager, I used to stay up late making various coffee concoctions to help me stay awake and bake cookies.
My true passion for cooking came though after I was married. My middle sister Karen gave me a subscription to Cuisine at Home magazine one year. This opened up a whole new world of cooking. The use of fresh and new ingredients left me wanting to learn all I possibly could. Here I am nearly 10 years later still pursuing the next great meal.
